Did you know that you can watch quidditch in real life, with a World Cup and everything?Sure, flying might not be directly involved, but quidditch is alive and well all around the world.
Quidditch was founded in 2005 at Middlebury College by then-freshman Xander Manshel. Quidditch has very much grown out of universities and communities first and foremost. In March of 2010, US Quidditch is incorporated as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and in 2011 the first transcontinental match was held, spreading Quidditch world wide.
Basically, the game is a combination of rugby and handball, where two teams of seven try to score the most points before the seeker catches the snitch. There are beaters and chasers and keepers, like we expect in the game. And yes, they run with broomsticks between their legs.
US Quidditch hold an annual world cup, and then the International Quidditch Association (IQA) hold international matches with teams for every country.
Also, if you want a good laugh, go through the list of team names and bask in the wonderful Harry Potter puns, including New York Badassilisks and the Horn Tailed Horcruxes.
You can find a ton of matches on YouTube at the US Quidditch channel, as well as some international game play.
What position would you play in Quidditch? Share with a comment.

I’ve always wanted to check out a Quidditch game…I think it’d be fun to watch 🙂
I play Chaser, which is good because I’d be a terrible Beater, but bad because I’m not a fast runner.
haha my boyfriend actually played quidditch for our university’s team! it was quite interesting actually. they were like any other sports team and even traveled for away games and stuff. i think if i played, i’d want to be the seeker!
