I have wanted to write more about books lately, and when I saw A Cornish Geek do this tag, I decided to jump in cause yes, there are not enough tags on my blog as it is.
What is a popular book or series that you didn’t like?
I’m not a big fantasy fan, so when I tried to read Eragon I couldn’t get into it.
What is a popular book or series that everyone else seems to hate but you love?
I wouldn’t say others hate this book, but it gets overshadowed by other books written by the author, and that is Looking for Alaska by John Green. It was his first book and it doesn’t get nearly as much love or hype as TFIOS does.
What is a love triangle in a book or series where the main character ended up with the person you did not want them to end up with?
I have a complicated answer because my first thought is The Great Gatsby. Although I do prefer Gatsby over Tom, the entire story would be ruined if she left Tom for Gatsby.
What is a popular book genre that you hardly reach for?
Sci-Fi. Can’t say I actively have chosen a Sci-Fi book ever, unless you count dystopias as Sci-Fi which I call it it’s own genre in my mind.
What is a popular or beloved character that you do not like?
The only one I can think of is Snape, since after the series ended he got so much love and praise. Although now a lot of people are vocally not on board with the Snape love.
Who is a popular author that you can’t seem to get into?
George R.R. Martin. I have no interest in Game of Thrones or really anything else he writes.
What is a popular book trope that you are tired of seeing?
Any character where their whole identity is dependent on their race or sexuality, or sometimes both. People are more complex, let’s make them more complex in books.
What is a popular book or series that you have no interest in reading?
50 Shades. Mostly because it is horribly written. Also Game of Thrones and LOTR. Just not my genre.
What is a movie or TV show adaption of a book or series that you like more than the book/s?
I don’t know if I would say I like it more, but I am a fan of the recent The Great Gatsby by Baz Luhrmann. I am a fan of Baz so I really love that movie.
You are really making me want to watch The Great Gatsby now. I so agree your tropes, like “This characters persona is ‘Black best friend Mmm hm’ or ‘Gay slightly camp best friend, so a man, never a women.” Although ‘feisty, cynical, female best friend who’s vaguely bisexual’ is also becoming a thing now.
Hi Michelle, I’ve nominated you for the Mystery Blogger award ‘Their blog not only captivates; it inspires and motivates. They are one of the best out there, and they deserve every recognition they get. This award is also for bloggers who find fun and inspiration in blogging, and they do it with so much love and passion.’ as I think you totally deserve it!
One movie I liked better than the book, a terribly unpopular opinion, is Interview with the Vampire. But I did go on and read most of The Vampire Chronicles.
Thanks for the post. I liked the questions!
It was fun reading this
