For the second day of the 30 Day Geek Out Challenge, the question is: What is your most recent fandom?
Just as a reminder, the 30 Day Geek Out Challenge is all about what makes you geeky, from fandoms to hobbies, favorite characters and more. I’m going to do this challenge along with my regular schedule of posts, so there will be tons of content from me this month! Thanks to Megan at A Geeky Gal for creating this!
Alright now on to the question. My most recent fandom is actually really easy for me to identify because it is so recent. And that fandom would be Attack on Titan.
If you follow me on Twitter, you have noticed my threads of my thoughts and reactions as I watched the series for the first time and as a complete anime novice. And I fell in love with this complicated, gruesome, badass story and characters.
To briefly summarize for those who don’t know, Attack on Titan follows Eren Jaeger, a boy who lives within the walls that protect the humans from the titans, along with his friends Mikasa and Armin. On one fateful day, the titans breach the walls protecting his city and terrorize the humans, including eating them. Eren ends up watching his mother get eaten by a titan, and vows to destroy all titans and the trio joins the Scout, a military segment that goes beyond the walls to fight the titans. Little does Eren know that he has some titan in him and there is much more to the titans than anyone ever thought.
I am very much a person who really loves the stories in things, and Attack on Titan has such a fascinating one. You have so many questions when watching it, and then when one gets answered, you have three new questions. And my having so many questions I wanted to be answered meant I was hooked. I have a note on my phone with all of the questions I’ve had, and then the answers to them when I get them. That is how hooked I am on Attack on Titan.
I also find the characters really well done and interesting. Every character has a distinct personality, motivations, strengths, and weaknesses. My personal favorites are Mikasa and Armin, but really all of the characters are awesome. It is good to have characters to connect to long term, especially with the amount of bloodshed that happens throughout the show.
I’ve only seen the anime so far, but I am interested in all of the manga as well. I know there are side mangas that focus on backstories, such as Captain Levi’s. There is also a prequel that I have my eye on. And I honestly think I will read the actual Attack on Titan manga once the anime is completed.
So that is my most recent fandom described in the most rambling way ever! If you enjoyed this post, make sure you go check out A Geeky Gal’s most recent fandom as well.
Looks like I’m adding Attack on Titan to my watch list! The Minecraft server I play on is getting a pretty major update in the next month or two, so when that happens, I intend to just binge a bunch of random shows I’ve been meaning to watch over the years.
