30 Day Geek Out Challenge: Day 7

Have you ever had a fandom that you thought you’d never get into, but then you ended up loving it? That is what today’s 30 Day Out Geek Out Challenge is all about!

Just as a reminder, the 30 Day Geek Out Challenge is all about what makes you geeky, from fandoms to hobbies, favorite characters and more. I’m going to do this challenge along with my regular schedule of posts, so there will be tons of content from me this month! Thanks to Megan at A Geeky Gal for creating this!

Today’s question is: What fandom do you love that you didn’t think you would?

For me, it is actually also my most recent fandom which is Attack on Titan.

I was never interested in anime, not really for any particular reason. Anime is so huge so maybe it was just a perceived barrier to entry because where there are so many options and would have no idea where to start.

Also, I do not like gore. I refuse to watch horror movies because of the gore in most of them. I don’t necessarily have an issue with blood in real life, but it is the excessiveness of it in the horror genre that I can’t stand. And if you know anything about Attack on Titan, you’ll know that it is quite gory in its own right.

So how in the world did I even get into Attack on Titan? Well, it wasn’t entirely my choice I guess you could say. I was introduced to it by a friend as we were hanging out and I basically just said: “sure why not”. He warned me about the gore which made me pause, but I think the fact it is so clearly fake since it is animated it doesn’t phase me at all.
