I’m excited for today’s 30 Day Geek Out Challenge prompt because it is enabling me to talk about something I have written a lot about: my favorite video game!
Just as a reminder, the 30 Day Geek Out Challenge is all about what makes you geeky, from fandoms to hobbies, favorite characters and more. I’m going to do this challenge along with my regular schedule of posts, so there will be tons of content from me this month! Thanks to Megan at A Geeky Gal for creating this!
Today’s question is: Favorite video game (or game series)?
If you have been here before and following along for a while, you can probably guess what game is my favorite because I have talked about it a ton.
Armello is a digital board game where you play as a clan member striving to defeat the rotten king and take over ruling Armello. You’re fighting against 3 others though, so it is a race to win with 4 different ways of becoming ruler.
When I was in my undergrad was when I started to get more interested in games and gaming. I was first just a viewer, watching YouTubers play games and then made my way to Twitch. I found Armello through a YouTube video actually, and I thought to myself “I really want to play that game.” So when a Steam winter sale came around I bought it.
Firstly, I really like the mechanics of Armello. The digital board game/ turn-based strategy mechanics are my favorite across video games as a whole. I enjoy the card mechanics as well as the ability to have different ways to win that you can adapt to based on how the game is going.
I also love the game’s theme and art. Set in a fantasy kingdom with the different animal clans that you can choose from, with each clan have an overarching ability that is then personalized to each individual character. River, part of the Wolf Clan, is my favorite to play although I do enjoy Sana, part of the Bear Clan, as well. The fun addition of the Bandit Clan, with the hodgepodge of different animal characters. Plus there is a ton of story in Armello, which I think is missed by many of its players.
Armello was the first game to really get me into gaming as an adult, and even through changes and bugs I still really enjoy the game.
Make sure you go read A Geeky Gal’s response to Day 12 as well!
