I love talking about my favorite underrated things, so today’s 30 Day Geek Out Challenge question is perfect for me.
Just as a reminder, the 30 Day Geek Out Challenge is all about what makes you geeky, from fandoms to hobbies, favorite characters and more. I’m going to do this challenge along with my regular schedule of posts, so there will be tons of content from me this month! Thanks to Megan at A Geeky Gal for creating this!
Today’s question is: What series is underrated?
Daria is so underrated, but I also can’t really blame people for not watching it because it first aired from 1997-2002. So most people my age haven’t seen it, cause we were 3-8 years old during that time. And this isn’t much of a kid’s show. Even I saw it via reruns and because my brother watched it first. Also, for many years it was really hard to watch Daria. It wasn’t easily available anywhere, streaming services weren’t a thing yet, and reruns were rare. So I know exactly why so many people missed this amazing show.
Daria follows, well Daria, during her high school years in the ’90s. It is full of sarcasm, characters we can relate with and remember knowing our own versions in high school. It’s also very intelligent humor, which I lean towards personally. It is closer to Bob’s Burgers type show versus a Family Guy if you want a more current comparison. But it is better than all of them honestly. I’d also say the show is pretty timeless. It may be from the ’90s, but a lot of the situations and lessons are timeless. And it isn’t trying to hard to be the ’90s since it was made in the ’90s.
This is the show my brother and I quote constantly. And I have had moments where I’ve quoted it around people who haven’t seen the show and I’ve had to say “None of you get that reference” awkwardly. It is mindblowing when I do meet someone who has seen the show honestly. When more people don’t know the show than do, you definitely know it’s underrated.

My Aunts taped a lot of episodes of this show when it aired on MTV. I really enjoyed it growing up! It’s now streaming on Hulu or Netflix.
