How A Geek Girl’s Guide Began
It all started with a mouse once upon a time on a dark and stormy night…
Ok but seriously, A Geek Girl’s Guide started because I wanted a place to share things I love and be able to openly geek out about them. It was a transitional point in my life where I was leaving a former passion and finding new loves and wanted to share the things I was loving with people who also loved those things.
My Advice for New Bloggers
I share a wealth of knowledge for bloggers in my Guide to Blogging series, but if I could only give two pieces of advice they would be the following:
Pace yourself
Blogger burnout is a trend I have seen get worse and worse the longer I blog. It takes a lot of energy and time to blog. And newbie bloggers come in with a bunch of enthusiasm and wanting to see their blog succeed, they give everything they can to the blog. And then when the blog doesn’t succeed like they want it to and they have no more energy, they burnout and most of the time never come back.
So pace yourself. All you really need to start blogging is a place to blog, places to share it, and things to write about. Starting with that and pacing yourself as you grow will reap much better results.
Find Your Community
My favorite part of writing geeky content, besides sharing the things I love, is the community around it. Having other geeky bloggers to share content with, collaborate with, seek advice from, and just chat to is so great. Finding your community of people who do what you do helps a lot with motivation and the technical side as well.
