I have been doing some book browsing lately and was thinking up some must-read books that I wanted to check out. While doing that I cam up with this new tag all about the “classics”.

A classic you read in school
I was an awful reader in school. I can count on one hand the amount of books I read in full in high school. One of those was Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, which actually got me interested in dystopian fiction in the first place.

A classic you read outside of school
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fotzgerald is the only classic that I can think of that I read outside of school. It was actually one of the books that never got read in high school by me. But then I gave it another try while in college and enjoyed it a lot more.

A classic you didn’t finish
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë is one of many did-not-finish books from my school years. I chose this one in particular because the universe was really against me finishing this book. I had to choose a book for summer reading between my junior and senior years of high school so I chose Jane Eyre. I also marched my first summer of drum corps that summer, which meant the only time I had to read and annotate it was at night on a bus after a 14-hour day. So yeah, that never got finished.

A classic you haven’t read
The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger was one of the summer reading options while in high school, I think between freshman and sophomore year for me. It didn’t interest me at all so I didn’t choose it. And I still have zero interest in it.

A classic you want to read
I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou is definitely on my TBR. Maya Angelou wrote some of my favorite poems like And Still I Rise and Phenomenal Woman.
A classic you’ve read multiple times
The Great Gatsby is the only one I have read more than once, and only twice. I don’t reread books ever. I have a hard enough time reading them in the first place sometimes.
For once I’m actually going to nominate some people! I nominate:
Rae and Jen at Novels and Notions
Here are the prompts if you want to join in.
A classic you read in school
A classic you read outside of school

A classic you’ve read multiple times
Everyone needs to read more Maya Angelou 🙂
