April is at its end so I’m giving my quick takes on all of the debuts and comebacks we got from K-Pop!
I’m only sharing the debuts and comebacks I actually paid attention to and not every single one that happened in the month. So if a favorite artist of yours isn’t in here, tell me about them in a comment and I’ll check them out!
Debuts
Spider by Hoshi
I watched the music video on a whim, mainly because Hoshi is the only member of SEVENTEEN whose name I remember. And I was pleasantly surprised! I love the concept and his vocals fit it all well. I hope he commits to this theming for future solo releases.
Rain on me by MAJORS
Not going to lie, three hearts is a little out of pity. I do think these girls have a lot of talent, but their management is not giving them what they need to succeed. The choreography is just not good. The music video is an improvement from the previous ones in this debut (they are doing a long multi-song debut that is just splitting attention). They deserve better than what they are getting.
GRATATA by Hot Issue
So I only checked them out because I kept seeing teasers for their debut from 1theK, so I decided to give them a listen. And overall I liked it. But the song felt like the chorus was one song and everything else was a different song. They didn’t fit in my opinion. Each song would be great, just not put together like this. I would have enjoyed it more if the song wasn’t so off for me.
Comebacks
Film Out by BTS
First off, the song is lovely. BTS has definitely been on a more chill trend with their most recent music and Film Out fits that. The music video is nice, aesthetically pleasing, but it isn’t one I’m going to watch over and over. But the song is worth five hearts alone.
Stalker by 3YE
My favorite comeback of April is easily 3YE’s! It’s a great song that I dance to every time it comes on, they’re keeping up with their girl crush vibes, and it is overall a strong comeback. These girls need more love. Please go love them with me.
Drunk-Dazed by Enhypen
First thought and I quote “Holy shit!” The song is awesome and I already love it. The video is wild, and if you know nothing about Enhypen you’ll probably question a lot. Hell I even know Enhypen’s concept and was still questioning things, but in that way where I want to see more and get answers. Overall, amazing comeback.
libidO by OnlyOneOf
This is actually my first time listening to OnlyOneOf. I had heard about them but never went to their music, but after hearing the “controversy” over this music video I gave the song a listen and really enjoyed it. And then I watched the music video and honestly, it’s amazing. It is artistic and beautifully done. Yes, it is probably considered scandalous to the more conservative Korean culture with the queer undertones and sensual choreography. But I commend it for going there and how they went about it.
We DO by SuperM
Even with this being a collaboration song with Prudential, yes the financial company, it is catchy as hell and fun. Disco inspired tracks have grown popular thanks to Dynamite’s astronomical success, and I think We DO is better than Dynamite honestly. It’s a fun song and it’s hard to hate a fun song.
Atlantis by SHINee
I actually don’t listen to a lot of SHINee, and I didn’t love Don’t Call Me. But Atlantis I really enjoy. It is one of four SHINee songs I have on my playlists.
Antidote by Kang Daniel
I love the entire vibe we are getting with Kang Daniel for this mini album comeback. It’s darker and edgier than his previous comebacks, so we’re getting to see different sides of him. I enjoy Antidote, but I do like other songs on the album more.
Touch by Touch by GreatGuys
First off, this is one of the only K-Pop music videos I have seen with people of other ethnicities in it. That’s awesome. And overall it is a super, upbeat song with a wholesome vibe so it’s impossibly to hate.
Scared by P1Harmony
I’m a little disappointed, mainly after listening to the rest of the album. I like other songs on the album more than Scared. The concept is very fitting for the group, but something about it is too intense for what I’m enjoying right now. I think their debut was definitely better.
