GolfTopia is a simulation game where you can design, build and manage your own futuristic golf course. I had the chance to give it a try and here are my initial thoughts.
A copy of this game was provided for the purposes of this review.
To manage your course, you have to keep 200 persistent visitors fed, hydrated, and happy, defend your creation from a growing infestation of weeds with robotic workers and defensive turrets, and evolve your course into a mega resort where nobody wants to go home. You build your course from scratch, even managing your starting island beforehand. It is the Roller Coaster Tycoon for gold courses basically.
There wasn’t much of a tutorial, or at least not an automatic one that would start as soon as you started playing. So the game felt a little intimidating to play with all of the options given to start your creation. Even though it is very similar to other tycoon games, it would have been nice to immediately get a tutorial and not have to dig for it.
I really enjoy these kinds of games, so even though GolfTopia doesn’t reinvent the genre or mechanics, it is still fun. It probably won’t be my go to tycoon game, but it was fun while I played it. I might pick it up again but it’s not one I want to spend hours and hours in to be honest.

I love tycoon games. And I love golf as well. This could be the kind of game for me.
