Quick Takes: January Debuts and Comebacks

Advertisements

January is over so I’m giving my quick takes on all of the debuts and comebacks we got from K-Pop this month!

I’m only sharing the debuts and comebacks I actually paid attention to and not every single one that happened in the month. So if a favorite artist of yours isn’t in here, tell me about them in a comment and I’ll check them out!

Debuts

WooAh HIP by MAMADOL

I really like the song but what I really love is the group concept. These are all idols who took a hiatus to become mothers and are now re-debuting. It is a project group so who knows how long they will last but I hope it is for a while.

Comebacks

Do It Like This by P1Harmony

I like it and it fits with P1Harmony’s other songs while also being unique. Also, their release with the new year is so fitting with what the song is about.

Four Hearts out of Five

WA DA DA by Kep1er

I don’t really know how I feel honestly. It’s not bad but I don’t love it either. I really have no strong feelings one way or the other. Also, the line distribution is wild compared to the members’ placements on the show that formed the group. The 2nd place member has the least lines and the 1st place is like in fifth for the most lines.

Three Hearts out of Five

Tattoo by AleXa

I appreciate the different sound from her and I also think they did a really good job having the video match the song and still connect to her overall concept. But it isn’t the most memorable of comebacks from this month.

Three Hearts out of Five

Step Back by GOT the beat

I really did not like it. Their voices don’t sound good together and it was grating. It was like the song was not written to balance them out but to make them all stand out which does not work. Also, the lyrics make them sound bitchy, not powerful. All this did was make me miss SuperM.

One Heart out of Five

Find You by BZ-Boys

They’re so underrated and this comeback is so nicely done. It’s very professional and clean, and the song is lovely. BZ-Boys need more love.

Four Hearts out of Five

Blessed-Cursed by ENHYPEN

This isn’t my favorite Enhypen title track personally. It isn’t bad and I appreciate how each new comeback has a different sound, but this one just isn’t my favorite.

Three Hearts out of Five

Layin’ Low by Hyolyn

All power to Hyolyn for doing these provocative concepts, but to me, there is a fine line before it comes across as solely as provocative for provocative’s sake. Sexual just to be sexual isn’t what I enjoy personally, but if that is what she wants then good for her she did it.

Three Hearts out of Five

Marvelous by Mirae

It isn’t anything we haven’t seen before in a lot of ways. The song style has been heard before as well as the visuals. It’s not going to be the most memorable of comebacks in my opinion.

Three Hearts out of Five

Rica Rica by Nature

Honestly I think it was really weak comeback. The choreography is a little odd as well as the song. And the members don’t look like they genuinely enjoy it.

One Heart out of Five

Lunatic by Moon Byul

What a fun song. It isn’t what I expected from Moonbyul but since she is in Mamamoo she is, of course, versatile and multitalented.
