When looking at an entire artist’s discography, I find it interesting to look back to where they started compared to where they are now. So that is the theme for this edition of save one drop one!
For this, I chose some of my favorite artists. Debuts are listed first and the most recent comeback as of the publish date will be used. So if you’re reading this post in the future and another comeback has happened, keep that in mind.
BTS: No More Dream vs. Yet To Come
These two songs are so opposite of one another and really makes you wonder how BTS got from one to the other if you aren’t familiar with their music. Neither of these songs is a favorite of mine, and I feel pretty equally about them. So I guess I am going to pick No More Dream because, without it, we wouldn’t have BTS.
(G)I-DLE: LATATA vs. TOMBOY
Two really good songs. Every time I hear LATATA my mind is blown at how that is a debut song. It definitely does not sound like a debut in my opinion and is one of my favorite songs of theirs. But so is Tomboy which I really enjoy. My save is going to go to LATATA though.
aespa: Black Mamba vs. Girls
This will probably be the easiest pick for this post because I am easily saving Black Mamba. I haven’t been as impressed with any of aespa’s comebacks compared to their debut, with Girls being one of my least favorites thus far.
Stray Kids: District 9 vs. MANIAC
District 9 is the official debut of Stray Kids, in case you were wondering why it wasn’t Hellevator. And it is a fine debut, although I’d say Hellevator is better. And Maniac is much better than both of those, so I am saving it over District 9.
Twice: Like Ooh-Ahh vs. Scientist
I don’t necessarily love Like Ooh-Ahh but I do like it more than Scientist. Don’t get me wrong, Scientist is a pleasant song. But out of all of Twice’s music, it isn’t a favorite. So I am saving their debut.
3YE: DMT vs. Stalker
I like all of 3YE’s music and I have enjoyed seeing their growth from debut until now. DMT set the tone, but Stalker in my opinion was an overall better comeback than their debut. So I am saving Stalker and looking forward to their next comeback.
Everglow: Bon Bon Chocolat vs. Pirate
Neither of these songs are my favorite from Everglow, but they are both strong. As of right now, I lean towards saving Pirate. I think I like it just a little bit more than Bon Bon Chocolat.
Enhypen: Given-Taken vs. Future Perfect (Pass the MIC)
Given-Taken is such a great debut that I have to save it. Future Perfect is good, but not my favorite from Enhypen so I can’t justify saving it over their amazing debut.
TxT: Crown vs. Good Boy Gone Bad
I have to say that I like bad boy TxT more than good boy TxT. Crown is a good debut and I like the song, but my preference leans towards darker concepts like Good Boy Gone Bad. So I’m saving the latter, but don’t forget we needed the good boys so they could go bad.
NCT 127: Fire Truck vs. Favorite (Vampire)
Another instance of neither song is my favorite from the group. I’m choosing to save Favorite because it is the one of the two that is on my main K-Pop playlist, meaning it is the one I like more.
Monsta X: Trespass vs. LOVE
I’m saving Trespass, even though it isn’t my favorite. But I just really haven’t enjoyed their comebacks since Shownu left for his enlistment.
AleXa: Bomb vs. TATTOO
Not crazy about either of these, but I am choosing to save Bomb because it is closer concept-wise to what I enjoy from AleXa. If Wonderland was a formal comeback though, I would have chosen that over Bomb easily.
P1Harmony: Siren vs. Doom Du Doom
Both of these I enjoy, but I enjoy, and thus save, Siren more. If this was Siren versus Do It Like This, the latter would have won hands down. But alas, that isn’t their most recent comeback.
