First Look: Buildings Have Feelings Too!


Buildings Have Feelings Too! is a puzzle city-builder where the buildings have come alive. Players must grow their city whilst making sure the individual buildings thrive, or risk them being demolished forever. Here is my first impression of the game.

In this game, you are developing your city and helping the buildings thrive by increasing their appeal. Different buildings will have different appeal goals and can be upgraded with the ultimate goal to be preventing demolition. You’ll be able to expand opportunities by researching new industries and make the best choices for where to put buildings for the most success. But you have to beware the world events that might cause buildings to fail and businesses to go bankrupt.

As you progress, they can grow your city, allowing for multiple neighborhoods. Specialist areas, such as busy finance hubs or bustling theatre districts, become available. Additional attributes such as electricity supply, noise pollution and transport add more complexity and challenges for players, making it more of a puzzle to create the best outcomes.

Gameplay is quite interesting with how they have setup combining a puzzle and city-builder into one game. Having objectives for every building and having neighboring buildings effect these objectives is a very smart way to do this. It has that extra level of strategy to elevate it from a simple city-builder, and the quirky characterizations makes it stand out as well.

I specifically played this on PC and the controls are strange and a little bit buggy. I was expecting to utilize my mouse the most in a very point-and-click fashion, which does work, but the responsiveness is unreliable compared to using the keys. However, the keys chosen aren’t intuitive either. If I had to guess it is because this game was developed for consoles prior to PC, and mapping the controls wasn’t very streamlined. It is something you can get used to, but is detracting from the enjoyment of the game.

Overall, I like the game in concept and would play it more if it weren’t for the controls issues. I have a feeling this game is better on console than it is on PC, so if the concept interests you look for it on the Switch or other console.
