Yesterday was the online version of BTS’ upcoming LA concert Permission to Dance On Stage. So I woke up at 2:30 in the morning to watch them and wanted to share my experience.
So this is my second online performance from BTS, with the first being the SoWooZoo Muster back in June. And a Muster is different from a concert, but I still had moments of comparison during the show. Happily this time I didn’t run into technical problems so I was able to enjoy the show seamlessly. And I I got to share the experience with my best friend again which really is what makes it fun.
Performance wise, it was amazing. The set list was awesome and the different mixes were all really cool and interesting. There were two specific moments that I absolutely adored and they were the Black Swan performance and the Blood, Sweat, & Tears/Fake Love performance. The former is always so gorgeous and they always do something interesting with it, this time being the costume change and the backup dancers creating swan imagery. And the latter is two of my favorite songs that, with their similar musicality, I always love when paired and they actually did it! Me and my creativity focused heart loved both of those moments.
One unfortunate part was that V was injured and couldn’t participate in the choreography. He was usually off to the side sitting and singing his parts, and you could tell he didn’t want to be there. And when he did get to be with the other members, he was so happy. It was a little heartbreaking to see, and even more so with how he criticized himself for the situation and apologized. He was still incredible, especially vocally, so while being sidelined isn’t ideal he still did his best and that is all any of us want.
The ending monologues were also on the sadder side unfortunately, with some members believing they didn’t do well (even though they undeniably did) or speaking on how the past two years have drained motivation and stamina, thus making performing a concert difficult. And I could see moments where they all were holding back, but I assumed it was to conserve energy or the sudden change to to V’s injury. As a former performer, I don’t fault them for any of that. And they still put on a great show and if they didn’t explicitly mentioned their struggles, I wouldn’t have guessed that they were struggling and would have just said they were conserving energy.
Overall, BTS still put on a great show, with an awesome set list and great creativity. I will say I enjoyed the Muster more because their energy was higher and livelier, but a Muster is arguably easier to perform than a concert. I hope that when they get to perform live in Los Angeles they get all of the love and hype they deserve.
What concerts have you attended, either virtual or in person? Tell me about them with a comment!
I’ve never attended a BTS concert live or online but it does look like a great time. From your post, I hope they get their energy back for their LA concert. Also, Jin’s green ribbon looks so cute on him. 🥺
Me too. I think ARMY will give them energy when it is in LA. And the bow is very Jin in these concerts.
