Hidden Through Time 2: Myths & Magic is a hidden object game by Rogueside that takes the time travel from the first game and brings in the many magical myths to the different time periods in the game.
A copy of this game was provided for the purposes of this review.
Like many hidden object games, you are given a set of objects to find in the level. They are thematic to the scenes you are exploring, and you will have to interact with items and people in the level to reveal some of the items needed.
If you are struggling to find some of the items, you can hover over it to get a hint of where it will be. Some clues are better than others and no clue is so obvious that it just gives it away which would ruin the fun and whole point of this game. The puzzles can a challenging as there are a lot of small pieces, especially as maps get larger and larger. Thankfully you can zoom in on areas for a better view and you can progress through the timeline without 100% completing every map. You do have to reach a certain number found to progress, but you can relieve the stress of having to find everything.
Unlike the original game, there is a new mechanic where you can, and need to, switch between different versions of the level which will alter the scenes and reveal different items. Example versions include day or night and sunny or rainy. The items will have a symbol that shows which version of the level you need to be in to find it. It’s a fun and creative change to add more variety and challenge to the game.
If you are someone who enjoys hidden object games, then you will enjoy Hidden Through Time 2: Myths and Magic. it is a solid sequel to the first, with the same whimsical art returning and adding the mythical and magical touches to make it unique. Plus the added mechanics of switching versions within levels is a fun change to your standard hidden object game.
