If you’ve been on my blog before, you know that I have a deep love and enjoyment of board games of all kinds. I’ve been playing board games for the majority of my life, so I’ve played quite a few of the games that can be considered classics, enough to where I have clear preferences. I’ve found my top 7 classic board games that I’d play again and recommend.

7. Monopoly
It’s been a looooong time since I have played Monopoly, but I have to respect the amount of strategy that goes into the game. And Monopoly is one of those games that everyone knows.
6. Dominoes
So Dominoes is a family favorite game for my father’s side of the family, so out of respect for the family that got me to play games, I have to include on this list.
5. Yahtzee/Scrabble
So I tied these two as equals, even though they are completely different games because they have similar stories as to why they are on this list. Yahtzee was a game that my maternal grandmother loved to play, in fact she got very excited and would scream Yahtzee as loud as possible. Scrabble was a game that I would play with my paternal grandmother when I was younger. Good memories of those games.
4. The Game of Life
Life has become a more popular game with my family in recent years, particularly when we started digging for games in our house to play. It’s a lighter and funnier game to play, especially when you somehow have seven kids in one game.

3. Uno
I’ve easily played Uno a million times, maybe even more. It’s probably the easiest game to play on this list as well. We literally have 5 boxes of this game in a drawer. I’ve played this game with a large portion of extended family, so it certainly transcends generations too.
2. Scattegories
Scattegories, if you’re not familiar with it, is a type of trivia/ word game where you’re given a list of categories and a single letter, and all answers for the list must start with the single letter. It’s also timed, so little more pressure. This is another game that my family has played for decades. It’s fun to see how much better you get at the game the more your learn about anything really.

1. Clue
The number one game is definitely Clue. It’s one of the more strategic games out of the classics, and has become iconic game in many homes including my own.
What classic games are your favorites? Let me know with a comment.

I do love scrabble. but, recently, I’ve been intimidated by those who plays for olympics, well, mine was always with my parents and friends. hahhahahaha
Any competitive players of games are so intimidating! I enjoy the fun of it more than the competition really.
Uno, Clue, Yahtzee, Dominoes…this is really solid list! Played all of this growing up and loved it.
The ultimate game of choice in my family growing up was Aggravation. If you haven’t played, it’s pretty similar to the board game Trouble – you’re trying to move four pieces full circle around the board, and if someone else stomps on your head you get sent back to your starting zone. Super simple, but tons of fun with four players around the table. My grandparents had a hand-made Aggravation table and marbles. I played with my mother and grandparents as a kid, and when my wife met the family she joined us in a few games!
Sounds interesting!
Good solid choices! I have at least 1 copy of each of these, except Life which I never liked. I played Sorry! last week, too!
I’ve never played Sorry actually. Might need to rectify that!
I love monopoly! We played Clue (we call is “cluedo” over here!) over the Christmas break – I hadn’t played it in years, and had forgotten how much I love it. We tried a new one I hadn’t heard of as well “Sequence” – that one was a lot of fun too!!
I *love* that you have Scattegories on here. I recently introduced this to my fiance. <3
I absolutely love Yahtzee (and dice in general), Scrabble, Monopoly, and Clue… another good one is Trivial Pursuit (Genus edition is what I'm used to), even though it's extremely hard. The 2000s edition is definitely much easier. We also played the Wikipedia Board Game over Christmas holiday and it was a blast as well, definitely suggest checking it out!
Clue is a great game! If we’re including cards, there are many card games I can put down here.
I’m also a fan of chess. And I like the Life board game, but the Twists and Turns edition. Are you familiar with that one?
I’m not familiar with a Twists and Turns version. Will have to check that out.
It uses credit cards and an electronic reader rather than paper money. And the board is made up of 4 different areas to travel for different reasons (there’s the path to marriage/life, the path to education, the path to career, and the path to adventure) and you set a limit for how many “years” you wanna play for.
Oh cool. We have the credit card version but not all the extra stuff. Sounds fun!

Bringing me back down memory lane!! So many good games here! We still play some of these in our house 🙂
I love Mancala! And pretty much every other board game that has ever existed.
UNO ist still one of my favorites! I love it.😊
Clue has always been one of my favorite games (and movies)!! I love this… I’ve been thinking about doing a post on the games I’ve been loving lately. 🙂 I’ve gotten into games against recently.
Games are my top favorite geeky thing ever so I definitely say do it! haha
