I love a strong female character. I love a complex female character. And I also love a magical female character. So I wanted to share some of my favorite witches from fiction since we are officially in the spookiest of seasons.
Hermione Granger
Something would be fundamentally wrong with me if I did not include the brightest witch of her age, the Hermione Granger. If I could be Hermione in another life, I absolutely would no question.
Professor McGonagall
And if I am Hermione in a second life, I want to be McGonagall when I grow older. Another absolutely remarkable witch that I would love to be even slightly like.
Woodcarver Witch from Brave
It’s nice to have a comedic witch from time to time, and the woodcarver witch from Brave is so ludicrous and funny despite essentially ruining Merida’s life. She may not be the witch you want to become, but she is the witch you get a good laugh at.
The Spellmans
Speaking of funny witches, we can’t forget the Spellmans. Sabrina and her aunts, Hilda and Zelda, brought magic to my TV when I was a kid and even rewatching the serious today gives me some feel-good moments and shenanigans.
Queenie Goldstein
I really like Queenie because she is more of the gentle witch versus the badass of McGonagall or Hermione. Also, she’s interesting because she is a Legilimens, someone with the ability to extract feelings and memories from another’s mind.
Elphaba
I had already written this post in advance and then I had the epiphany that I didn’t include Elphaba. When you have an anthem like Defying Gravity you can’t deny her greatness as a witch, even if it’s not the kindest and friendliest of witches.
Kiki
Ok, so I am back with yet another update cause I was reminded of yet another witch I love and that is Kiki! A different take on witches, where they are mostly welcomed by society and the good they can do, is mainly why I love Kiki.

Hermione Granger Of cause is my absolute favourite because she is brave, loyal smart, but I also think Bellatrix Lestrange is just so evil and crazy so she has to be on my top lists of witches. Also Bonnie Bennett from Vampire Diaries is just so powerful, loyal and kind.

I don’t even know where I would begin with a list like this! From tv shows to video games and then oh gosh, books! I read so many urban fantasy and fantasy books – there’s just so many 😀 This was a great list and a few I don’t know yet and hope to one day meet for myself.

Oh my, I had to laugh when I saw the woodcarver witch. I would have never thought of her, but I love the inclusion! I think that’s an underrated movie. Big of McGonagall myself.

My favourite witch would probably have to be Luna Lovegood, but I do love McGonagall aswell. I also really like the creepy witch in Sword of the Stones – she turns herself into the funniest looking creatures.
