After not writing about musical theater for a while, I’m bringing it back today after falling back into a musical mood recently. This tag was adapted from a Facebook tag I saw an old friend do, so I decided to take it and tweak it to fit the blog and ask a little more!
A Musical You Dislike
Grease. I’m not a fan of the movie and the stage version is not any better.
A Musical You Think Is Overrated
Dear Evan Hanson is not a favorite of mine. I don’t hate it, but I also think it got way more hype than it should have. Maybe the hype set the bar too high for my expectations. And I know this is a hot take answer. You Will Be Found is a good song though.
A Musical You Think Is Underrated
Next to Normal is so underrated. The story alone is fascinating and the music is so good too. It’s easily one of my top favorites. A special shoutout to Grey Gardens also for this category.

A Musical You Love
This one is so hard because I love many. It’s like when you ask which shows would I want to see live (which is asked below) and it’s just a long list.
A Musical You Cherish
Hamilton. I found Hamilton right before it really blew up. I was the one going around to my friends telling them they had to listen to it. It got me through some really rough times, so it has a special place in my heart.

A Musical You Have On Repeat
Hamilton, although less on repeat now than before. It is still a prominent member of my Broadway playlist.
A Musical You’d Want To Be In
I’m not an actor by any stretch of the imagination, and my performance extent is either a dancer or on tech crew. And I’m not sure I can pick one show I’d want to be in.
A Musical That Made You Fall In Love With Broadway
I’m going to give credit to The Phantom of the Opera because my first year of marching band our field show (the kind you watch during halftime at high school football games) was Phantom. I did have a casual appreciation for musical theatre before then because my brother is a theater lover and I watched many shows before I reached my marching band days.

A New Musical You Want To Learn More About
Hadestown has caught my attention recently. It is a retelling of the ancient Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, where Orpheus journeys to the underworld to rescue his fiancée Eurydice. It began it’s Broadway previews in March and began performances originally in 2016, so it is a pretty new musical.
A Musical That Changed Your Life
Maybe Hamilton, because of the difficulties I was struggling through at the time and how much it helped. I almost got a Hamilton tattoo.
A Guilty Pleasure Musical
Book of Mormon. It’s not the greatest musical ever honestly and is pretty ridiculous, but I do enjoy it.

Favorite Movie Adaptation of a Musical
So there are ones I enjoy (Into the Woods, Les Mis, Hairspray) and then ones that are just so amazing (Chicago as an example). I am going to pick Dreamgirls because it is an outstanding adaptation and they handle all of the moments, both happy and sad, so well. And Jennifer Hudson! Ugh, she was phenomenal.
First Musical You Saw Live
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Saw it at a dinner theater with my family in my middle school years.

Favorite Musical You’ve Seen Live
Avenue Q. My university put it on and it was such a hilariously great time. It was very well done and so enjoyable. Although this may be dethroned when I go to see Miss Saigon in August.
A Musical You Want to See Live
Wicked, Next to Normal, Hamilton, In The Heights, A Gentlemen’s Guide to Love and Murder, the list can go on forever probably.

A Musical You Want To See Specifically on Broadway
My brother and I both agree that The Lion King musical would be amazing and best seen specifically on Broadway.
Going to shout out the friend I got this from. His name is Ala and he is a professional actor and dancer doing amazing things, including performing for Disney, in touring productions, and regional theatre performances of shows including Guys and Dolls.

Well, this list seems interesting, and might do it for my musical theatre blog
I am a musical theatre fanatic and find this tag interesting to put on my blog. My blog’s main topic is musical theatre.
I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who doesn’t like Grease! I may consider this tag but I don’t know if I’ve seen enough musicals (especially Broadway ones) to even do it. Oh and I love Dreamgirls too, never mind Beyonce I love Jennifer Hudson’s voice!
Oooh I’ve never seen a Broadway musical tag! I liked reading your answers. Hadestown is a musical I’m also interested in learning more about; it’s got quite a following already!
I’m very excited about it. It has 14 Tony nominations for this year too!
Omg I love this list so much!! I have only seen a handful of these, some of them only partially, and only one of them live. But many others on this list are also on my list to see as well. Thanks for sharing! 🎶
