I’ve known about Eko for a few years now, but I’ve started to see it become more popular with their collaborations with Buzzfeed’s Tasty and other brand collaborations. So I decided to write a post about Eko and all of the interesting stuff they have going on there.
Eko is an interactive storytelling platform that lets you control the story. If you played the Bandersnatch episode of Black Mirror, it is the same concept. Think of it as watching a movie, but you get to control what the characters choose to do.
There is a bunch of different series on Eko, both branded and truly original. Want to create your own brownies with Tasty? You can do that. Want to control what happens in a music video? Yep, you can do that too. Want to try to escape an asylum from the comfort of your home? Do it with Eko.
There is a lot of content on Eko so there is bound to be something that interests you to try out. There are also a lot of options when it comes to length as well. There are short one-offs where it is just the one video. And then there is also full series’s you can do. So if you just want to check it out and dabble with it, the music videos, cooking choices, and the indie creator videos are great for that.
The one thing that is a little bit of a bummer, at least for me, is how bandwidth intensive it is. If you have so-so internet speed and connection, Eko struggles to let you interact and watch these stories unfold. Unlike YouTube, there are no quality controls to help you when your internet isn’t being your friend.
If you enjoy gaming, you will enjoy Eko and what it has to offer. It gives you the enjoyment of making decisions and a game-like experience with the perk of also feeling like you’re watching a show. And it is free! So it is definitely worth checking out for that sweet price of free.
Do you enjoy choose-your-own-adventure types of entertainment? Let me know with a comment!
