It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas and I’ve been feeling festive. So I whipped up this festive tag for the season.
When does it officially feel like the holidays for you?
For me the beginning of December is definitely the start of the holidays for me. Especially December 6th, which is the German holiday St. Nicholas Day that I’ve celebrated since a kid. That is really the kick-off celebration of the holiday season.
Do you have any traditions for the holidays?
I have a few. I always need to watch The Muppet Christmas Carol (best Christmas movie ever). And playing board games have become a big part of Christmas. We have the pickle in our tree.
What foods do you associate with the holidays?
Definitely the classic Turkey, potatoes, gravy, etc meal. Hot chocolate is also very prominent. I don’t attach this to the holidays as much as I do to winter as a whole, but Alpine Village soup is my favorite of all soups.
What’s your favorite holiday treat?
Terry’s Chocolate Oranges and White Fudge Oreos.
What’s your favorite holiday activity?
Baking is the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of “traditional” holiday activities. But i also enjoy baking all-year round.
Do you decorate for the holidays?
Oh yes we do. And by we I mean my mom. Every year has a different theme and it is always so beautiful and festive.
How do you spend Christmas Eve?
The normal way is that it’s just any other day. I now work on Christmas Eve unless I take vacation. In the past we have had our official dinner on Christmas Eve and sometimes opened presents then too. Back when I was younger, my family would visit my maternal grandparents for Christmas and Christmas Eve was our official Christmas celebration.
How do you spend Christmas Day?
Recently, it is our official celebratory day. We open presents, play board games, and have Christmas dinner. It’s usually just my parents, brother, and I which is perfectly okay with me.
