May is at its end so I’m giving my quick takes on all of the debuts and comebacks we got from K-Pop!
I’m only sharing the debuts and comebacks I actually paid attention to and not every single one that happened in the month. So if a favorite artist of yours isn’t in here, tell me about them in a comment and I’ll check them out!
Debuts
Easy by WJSN THE BLACK
This is a subunit of WJSN that just debuted. I’ve listened to a little bit of WJSN so since that was a familiar name I decided to check this out. And I really enjoy the sultry vibe it has. I’ve never been a fan of the brighter, bubbly concepts so this was right where I enjoy girl group concepts.
Y U COMEBACK by 4Mix
4Mix is actually a Thai group that highlights gender diversity and LGBTQ+ through their music. I found out about them on TikTok so I then went and checked out their debut. Music wise it is good with room for growth and improvement. I am curious to how the LGBTQ+ focus continues and also if the members actually identify as LGBTQ+ because I couldn’t find definitive info.
Comebacks
In The Morning by Itzy
I think I have finally reached the point where I just don’t like Itzy and need to stop trying to like them. It has nothing to do with the members, who are very talented of course, but I don’t like their music. I liked In The Morning as first listen but it quickly became annoying to me and has been removed from my playlist. My rating is mostly based on it isn’t for me but that doesn’t make it bad.
NOT THE END by Highlight
I vaguely knew of Highlight prior to this but never really got into their music. But I decided to watch the music video spontaneously and I greatly enjoyed it. The song was exactly the kind of song I’ve been wanting recently. And the simple video paired well with it.
BLACK MIRROR by Oneus
This comeback is so fun! I watched a teaser and the Michael Jackson vibes were immediately intriguing. And the whole song is enjoyable and I commend the choreography in particular.
Hot Sauce by NCT Dream
This comeback is fine. I don’t hate it but I don’t like it that much either. I’m not a fan of the song all that much so it’s hard to really enjoy a comeback when the song is just fine.
Next Level by aespa
I really love aespa’s concept and they are really going big budget on it. Which means the song itself is low budget at best. I really wanted to like it, but then the bridge flipped into a whole different song and it was disjointed and had no climax to make it interesting. So far they haven’t lived up to their debut musically which is disappointing.
Advice by Taemin
This comeback and concept is so cool. It is not what I expected from Taemin at all but it’s incredible. Check it out because it really is awesome.
RUB-A-DUM by TRI.BE
It’s fun and summery and fits their overall concept and sound well. I personally find their previous songs better though.
Ring Ring by Rocket Punch
My general feeling is that it is fine. It isn’t revolutionary and not my taste in music. It’s your standard bubbly pop song.
Oh MAMA by Bling Bling
I like the visuals and concept, but I was left wanting more from the song. It honestly faded from my attention after watching the video.
Butter by BTS
BUTTER IS SO GOOD!! I was very cautious going into it because Dynamite isn’t my favorite and the concept teasers were bizarre. But the actual song and video, amazing. I’m so happy.
Let Me Know by PIXY
I love a girl crush concept and this is a pretty decent one. I found their debut track better but Let Me Know is still a solid song I enjoyed.
FIRST by Everglow
Since when did Everglow have superpowers? That was honestly my main focus with the video. I always enjoy a girl crush concept and overall it’s a cool concept and song. I do think their previous comeback is better though.
0X1=LOVESONG by TXT
TXT really is becoming one of my favorite groups. Every song, this one included, is always so good! They have a lot of conceptual range that I really enjoy.
