August is at its end so I’m giving my quick takes on all of the debuts and comebacks we got from K-Pop! And oh boy there are a bunch this month so let’s get to it.
I’m only sharing the debuts and comebacks I actually paid attention to and not every single one that happened in the month. So if a favorite artist of yours isn’t in here, tell me about them in a comment and I’ll check them out!
Debuts
PRESENTE by Triple Seven
So this is a collaboration project between the two groups at GH Entertainment, 3YE and B.I.G. I actually didn’t know that until after I started listening to it. Overall I enjoy the song and I love how they have a spanish version along with the korean.
Door by Kwon Eun Bi
Former IZ*ONE member Eunbi made her solo debut and it’s a fun, jazzy song with a playful video parodying Alice in Wonderland. I watched it on a whim, as I didn’t follow IZ*ONE, and I was pleasantly surprised.
Comebacks
Close your eyes by BZ Boys
So I have never heard of them before an article was shared in a group I am in, so I gave them a listen with their first comeback happening in August. And I am quite impressed! The article referred to them as an unpopular group, and they are quite unknown, but that should change because this song is really good!
Ra Pam Pam by Golden Child
I really like the song and the latin influence it has. I don’t really know how the apocalypse has anything to do with it or if it has some connection to the group’s concept, so I’m indifferent to the video.
After Midnight by ASTRO
It’s very on trend for the music we’re currently getting out of K-Pop lately. It’s fun and upbeat so it’s hard to dislike it. But it’s not a masterpiece.
BEcause by Dreamcatcher
It’s very Dreamcatcher both visually and audibly. It’s not my favorite Dreamcatcher track but it’s still perfect for them and really only they could pull it off.
Paint Me Naked by TEN
This isn’t at all what I thought it was going to be. I was expecting a sexier, sultry concept. But this is so bright and hopeful and actually more representative of who Ten is.
Low Low by TEN&YANGYANG
I’m surprised at how much I like this song. I’ve had it on repeat and I enjoy the fun energy and how easy it is to enjoy.
Gas Pedal by Cravity
I was excited and intrigued when the first teaser came out, and then the song and video disappointed me honestly. It was very one-note the whole time and I kept waiting for some sort of climax and it never happened. I really like Cravity and they have great music I just thought this could be better.
Queendom by Red Velvet
I’m going to make people mad with this but I didn’t even finish listening/watching. I got bored honestly and I think they have better music.
Thunderous by Stray Kids
There is so much going on in the video that I don’t know where to start. Song wise, the further into it the more I liked it. I think this is one of those tracks I’ll have to listen to some more to really solidify an opinion on it.
After We Ride by Brave Girls
I love the 80’s vibe the song has. It makes it unique and stand out compared to the other comebacks happening right now. And I’m happy that did something very different from Rollin’ to show their diversity.
Wave by CIX
I don’t have strong feelings one way or another on this one. The song is good, but CIX has other music I like more. And I listened to the full album and think other songs would have been better title tracks.
Cerberus by Pentagon
I didn’t finish watching the video in all honesty. It’s not my taste and was just too off the wall for me, so I’ll pass on this one.
A Little Space by Ateez & Pentatonix
Well this is a crossover I didn’t see coming. I’ve been a Pentatonix fan since they were on The Sing-Off so seeing them collaborate with K-Pop is pretty cool. The song is fun and enjoyable. I wish the Ateez members were a little more involved but I’m glad they sang in Korean for this.
Trigger by Verivery
I’m not familiar enough with Verivery to know if they have some storyline throughout their videos but it seems like it, and from the Trigger video it looks pretty epic. The song is epic as well, fits in with their other music and my personal taste too.
Flex by T1419
Another one where I don’t have strong feelings one way or another. I think they are still trying to figure out what fits the group best since they are a young group. So it isn’t bad by any means, but not revolutionary.
Spicy by CL
CL is iconic and that will never change. So everything she does is iconic, and Spicy is no exception. I’m not the biggest rap fan so I won’t be playing this on repeat but it’s damn good nonetheless.
Splash by Mirae
I like it and I think it is a strong comeback for the group, but I think their debut was better. I missed the technology concept their debut had and is supposed to be part of the group’s concept as a whole.
Loser = Lover by TXT
What I enjoy most about this comeback is how thye are embracing this punk rock sound and aesthetic. It’s very different from their other music and from K-Pop in general.
Walking in the Rain by AB6IX
It’It’s enjoyable but not revolutionary. It isn’t something that hasn’t been seen before.
Thrill Ride by The Boyz
It’s fun and catchy. I don’t personally love it, but it is well done.
Movin’ by MCND
I find MCND to be hit or miss for me a lot of the time, and Movin’ is a hit for sure. The video is a little irrelevant with a implied storyline they don’t really carry through, but the song is strong and that is what matters more to me.
