May is ending so it is time to give my quick takes on all of the debuts and comebacks we got from K-Pop this month!
I’m only sharing the debuts and comebacks I actually paid attention to and not every single one that happened in the month. So if a favorite artist of yours isn’t in here, tell me about them in a comment and I’ll check them out!
Fearless by LE SSERAFIM
This is one of the few debuts I paid attention to the development of and teasers for. And ultimately, the debut is alright. I like the song and I wanted to see the choreography more clearly. The video was okay at best in my opinion. I give them 4 hearts because the song is good, and to me the song itself is the most important factor.
Shut Down by CLASS:y
Honestly, I am genuinely surprised with how good this debut is and how much I like it. The song is great and compared to similar groups it is much better. As for the music video, there were parts I liked and some I didn’t. Some of the CG looked off and didn’t blend well, but overall the colorful explosion that it is was fun and fitting.
Good Boy Gone Bad by TxT
Okay but they really killed this concept and the song is great. It’s catchy and edgy, and the dark concept fits it so well. Each member fit, but Yeonjun especially was amazing. TxT really never disappoints.
Power of Love by ALICE (formerly Elris)
Ballads are not my favorite, as I’ve mentioned before in quick takes, so I’m not jumping for joy for this. It is beautiful and their vocals are stunning. I enjoyed how they still had choreography which fit well with the song. It was like a lovely bonus.
VENOM by BVNDIT
First off, I’m just so dang happy that BVNDIT is finally having a comeback! They are so underrated and should not be honestly. As for Venom itself, it’s good but not the most standout comeback of the month. The song and the video remind me of other groups, so it doesn’t have that uniqueness I want to see.
She’s The Boss by The Boyz
This is their Japanese comeback and honestly I kind of lost interest after the first verse and didn’t really pay attention further. It didn’t catch my attention as anything special.
Bring it on by ONEUS
It’s a good song and the video is actually more interesting than I expected with the carnival/wonderland concept. I don’t think I’d add it to my playlist though because it didn’t have anything special in it musically.
Candy Sugar Pop by ASTRO
Based on the song title, I was anticipating an obnoxiously cute and colorful experience. But I was pleasantly surprised to find that the song and video were more chill while still being fun and a vibe. It’s a mood-lifter song that doesn’t teeter into being over the top, and I’m happy with that.
Fame by Ciipher
The song and the video concept don’t line up for me. I like the song, but this video concept for it just doesn’t work in my opinion. Kudos for trying something different I guess but it just seems odd to me. I’ll listen to the song again, but I pass on the video.
NANANA by GOT7
I’m not much of a GOT7 listener, but I was aware of them enough to know what all happened with their previous company. And because of that, this song being so carefree and a vibe feels like a representation of how they now feel with freedom, which is good for them. No idea if that was the intent, but that’s what I got.
Savior by AB6IX
This is a very strong comeback for them. It has a clear concept and a strong song that isn’t trying too hard to be badass or in your face. It reminds me of Monsta X’s Love Killa era, which I love, so I really enjoyed this comeback.
Hot by Seventeen
This is quite the departure from the last few comebacks from Seventeen, which is in no way a negative. They really pull off the concept and when we’re surrounded by summer songs, it stands out. Overall I enjoy the vibe and the track.
Upside Down by Kang Daniel
I really like Kang Daniel, but I feel indifferent about this comeback. It is fine and if the song comes on I won’t be annoyed, but that is the extent of how I feel honestly.
