Western Pop and K-Pop get compared often, so I decided to put the east against the west for this save one drop one same title edition.
These matchups when it comes to the west are taken from both popular music as well as from my own favorites. So if you don’t recognize an artist or song, go check them out!
Dynamite by BTS vs. Dynamite by Taio Cruz
I had to include this pairing because I have distinct memories of the Taio Cruz song when I was a teenager. That definitely gets nostalgia points, but I do think BTS’ Dynamite is better. So I’m saving BTS.
Blue by Wonho vs. Blue by Troye Sivan & Alex Hope
Same title but different vibes for this match-up. This is actually a difficult choice for me because they are about equal in how much I enjoy them. I’m going to choose Wonho this time because if I had to pick one to listen to right now, it would be his.
New Rules by TxT vs. New Rules by Dua Lipa
I really enjoy both songs, but I find TXT’s version a little more unique and has more depth musically. So I am saving theirs this time around, even though I love Dua Lipa.
Oh My God by (G)I-DLE vs. Oh My God by Adele
(G)I-DLE’s is truly iconic while Adele’s is not her most well-known song. I enjoy it, but I have to pick (G)I-DLE’s since it is unique and one of their best tracks to date.
Power by EXO vs. Power by Little Mix
Prior to this, I was only vaguely aware of Exo’s version. But after just one full listen I can say I like it more than Little Mix’s and it is an easy save.
Deja Vu by Ateez vs. Deja Vu by Olivia Rodrigo
Another pair of different vibes here. And I enjoy both about equally so I’m going with my gut here and choosing to save Olivia’s. Ateez has many songs similar to Deja Vu that I enjoy, so Olivia’s is a bit more unique.
Fancy by Twice vs. Fancy by Iggy Azalea ft. Charli XCX
Both of these are rather iconic songs, so it comes down to what I think is the better song. And that would be Twice. I would consider Twice’s Fancy to be timeless, while Iggy’s is very much a song of its time.
Monster by Irene and Seulgi vs. Monster by LIVVIA
Both of these songs have a similar vibe to them so picking one is actually a little hard. As I am listening to them right now, I’d save Livvia’s. I’m just enjoying it more, plus I prefer Irene and Seulgi’s Naughty more than Monster.
Move by Taemin vs. Move by Saint Motel
Move by Saint Motel is one of my favorite songs ever, but I can’t deny how iconic Taemin’s Move is. This one is hard, but I am choosing to save Saint Motel’s because I love it so much plus I like other Taemin songs better.
Me by CLC vs. Me by Taylor Swift
Even though spelling is fun, I don’t like Taylor Swift’s Me. It’s a very cheesy song. I’m not even that familiar with CLC’s Me, but I still choose to save it over Taylor’s.
Dazzle by MY.st vs. Dazzle by Oh Wonder
This one is truly the hardest pairing for me. Both are great songs with unique aspects. Having to choose them, I am choosing to save MY.ST this time because Oh Wonder’s Dazzle isn’t my favorite song of theirs.
Now or Never by SF9 vs. Now or Never by Halsey
This was an easy choice for me, and the one I am saving is Halsey’s Now or Never. SF9’s is fine, but they have other songs I like much better. And Halsey is one of my top favorite artists ever and Now or Never is on my favorite album of hers.
Ride by KNK vs. Ride by Twenty One Pilots
I had a big Twenty One Pilots face when I was in college, but I don’t really listen to them anymore. And I never listened to them to the extent I listen to K-Pop. So since I am choosing now versus back then, I’m saving KNK’s Ride. Ride is still iconic Twenty One Pilots, but I’m just not into them anymore.
Bonus!
Black Mamba by aespa vs. Black Mambo by Glass Animals
They were one letter off so not exact titles, but I loved the chance to get Glass Animals in here cause they are a favorite of mine! And this choice is so hard because I love both songs. But because it is much more unique, I’m saving Black Mambo by Glass Animals.
