Jihyo from Twice made her solo debut recently and since she is someone who I have been impatiently waiting to go solo, I am excited to listen to the album and share my thoughts.
Killin’ Me Good
This song makes the most sense for being the title track since it is the most similar to Twice in sound, which makes sense since it was written by JYP himself. It’s a catchy song that I’ve enjoyed listening to each time it comes on. It’s also a good opening song to ease us from Twice into Jihyo’s solo.
Talkin’ About It (feat. 24kGoldn)
In a weird way, I feel like this is the real album opener. This is Jihyo being solely herself, not trying to be commercial or resemble her group. It’s a song without pretense. It’s also the first song that she wrote for the album. She sounds great, I love her adlibs in the rap, and I’m glad to get another upbeat track since we mellow out the rest of the album.
Closer
I love the vibe of this song. I’d love to see Jihyo perform this song because I feel like she would really get into it and enjoy it. This is one of my favorite songs on the album. The relaxed feel is so pleasant to sway along with.
Wishing On You
It’s a nice song, just not fully my personal taste. I’ll listen to it but I won’t go out of my to do so. I do like that it showcased a different range of her vocals that we don’t get to hear in other songs on the album.
Don’t Wanna Go Back (Duet with Heize)
I particularly like the chorus of this song. I find myself stopping what I’m doing to just vibe with it. It doesn’t blow me away, but I do enjoy listening to it.
Room
Every time I’ve listened to this song, I’ve eventually tuned it out. I don’t think of it as a negative, because it’s just that calming and soothing. It’s the kind of song I’d listen to to help me fall asleep, which end up being my most listened-to songs (by accident). I don’t see myself listening to it much because I don’t need to be soothed into such a peaceful state all of the time, but it is a lovely song.
Nightmare
I want to see a performance of this song so bad. It has a darker edge to it that intrigues me. It’s sultry so I want to see her perform this without choreography, just selling it to us with her stage presence. I also like that we end the album with more powerful song as opposed to the usual ballad that many other albums end with. This is another one of my favorite songs.
Overall Rating
I’m so glad we got blessed with her solo debut and this album. She sounds phenomenal throughout and the songs top to bottom are excellent and they all create a compelling tone that is wholly Jihyo. She truly shines in this album and I cannot wait to listen to it on repeat until we get her next one.
