Stray Kids are back with their latest album ROCK-STAR and I had to share my thoughts on the latest music from one of my favorite K-Pop groups.
MEGAVERSE
It is fitting as a Stray Kids album opener. Their openers just have a particular sound and vibe which this track fits. I like it as an opener but I don’t know how much I’d like it as a standalone.
LALALALA
This song is the perfect one to be the title track of this album. I’m lowkey obsessed with it already. I love how amplified it is with Stray Kids’ style and how high-energy it is. It’s definitely a new favorite song of mine.
BLIND SPOT
I wasn’t expecting the tone shift in song style between Lalala and Blind Spot, but I’m not mad about it. This song has an addictive catchiness about it. I love how upbeat and fast-paced it is.
COMEFLEX
This song gives me title track style, like if it was on another album it could have been the title track. It is interesting, energetic, and very Stray Kids.
Cover Me
After all of the energetic and hype tracks, this drop in energy is a little too dramatic for me. That said, the song itself is really stunning. I like that while it is slower in tempo, it doesn’t have an overly toned-down instrumental. The instrumental is what really enchants me with this song. This might actually be one of my favorites on this album. Maybe in all of Stray Kids.
Leave
I’m glad that this isn’t a ballad. To me, it is the album closer since the following two tracks are remakes of existing Stray Kids songs and this is the last “new” song of the album. I do think that if this was before Cover Me, and Cover Me was the album close that would have been perfect. This song comparatively is nice but I know I’m not going to listen to it as much as the rest of the album. It would have acted as a nice transition from the upbeat to the dramatic with how mellow it is.
Social Path (Korean Ver.)
When they remake their Japanese songs into Korean, they always sound a bit off to me. So I prefer the original because that version sounds the best to me. The song overall I enjoy a lot.
LALALALA (Rock Ver.)
I definitely prefer the original version over this one. It’s a cool remix that makes sense to have, but the original sounds much better to me.
Overall Rating
This is a new favorite Stray Kids album of mine. Every song is solid and I just love the style and energy it has.
