That’s right, Underrated is back! This is one of my favorite series as I get to give some love to characters that are generally left forgotten. I was thinking of Disney, and how there are some great and lovable sidekicks that we never talk about. So here are a few that I think should get some more love.
Gug Gus and Jaq
Have to start off with a classic right? Although there is a whole house full of mice helping Cinderella, Jaq and Gus Gus go out of their way to help her through the whole film. They also get turned into horses for her to go to the ball.
Morph
Treasure Planet as a whole is an underrated Disney film. I added Morph to this list because 1) no one remembers him and 2) he is just too damn cute. Morph ends up helping Jim, the protagonist, out a lot during the film although originally being the sidekick of Silver.
Major Dr. David Q. Dawson
Every Holmes needs his Watson, and Dawson is the Watson in The Great Mouse Detective. Another film I find very underrated, Basil wouldn’t have been able to do anything to help Olivia with Dawson.
Evinrude
The Rescuers is not the perfect film, but you have to show some love to the animal sidekicks of the film. One, in particular, is Evinrude, the dragonfly with the fastest boat in the Devil’s Bayou. He helps Bianca and Bernard get to Penny and rescue her from Madame Medusa. Evinrude also leads the charge of the local animals to aid the rescue. Without Evinrude, Penny wouldn’t have been saved.
Crickey
I have to reference back to my favorite Disney film, and when I was browsing lists of Disney sidekicks, I was amazed that Crickey from Mulan was not on any list. Mushu of course was, but Crickey is just as important. He is part of the whole adventure and helps both Mushu and Mulan. He is one lucky bug after all.

Love almost all of these. I ve never seen treasure planet, but maybe I need to since it seems to be getting a lot of attention lately. Cricket is my favorite from this list. Gus would make such a cute and easy disneybound.

Ah Morph – so cute. Treasure Planet is definitely one of the most underrated Disney movies of all time – in fact, most people forget it’s even Disney. I also love Sword in the Stone, and Archimedes – he’s the best!!

I love these posts and I’ve been meaning to read this one for days. When I saw Treasure Planet, I immediately thought, ‘boy is that an underrated Disney movie.’ …then I finished reading your fist sentence. 😀 Have you ever seen the Black Cauldron? That movie and the character Gurgi totally make this list.
I think I agree most with Crickey, but Mulan is also my favorite too!
