May is Mental Health Month, and mental health is an incredibly important thing to me as someone who lives with mental illnesses. So for every post this month I’ll be including this message and resources as a reminder that there should be no stigma for mental illness and that everyone has mental health.
If you want to learn more about Mental Health Month, I recommend going to Mental Health America. They are an organization that does great work for many aspects of mental health, including mental illness. MHA is the organization I support as a Humble Bundle partner as well! National Alliance on Mental Illness, or NAMI, is another organization I also support for their work with mental health.
Did you know there is an organization just for us geeks and mental health? Take This is focused on creating a gaming community free of stigma and increase the support for mental health in the game enthusiast community and inside the game industry. They are known for creating safe spaces at conventions known as AFK Rooms as well as their Streamer Ambassadors.
I’ve also written a variety of mental health centric geeky posts on here, including How To Geekify Self Care and various Games to Help You Destress posts. See them all under my mental health category. I’ve also written about mental illness on Look Through My Lens.
Also, if you’re in need to reach out for help but don’t know where I recommend Crisis Text Line. Crisis Text Line is a global not-for-profit organization providing free crisis intervention via text message. The organization’s services are available 24 hours a day every day, throughout the US by texting 741741 or Canada by texting 686868.
