It’s A Geek Girl’s Guide’s birthday! Happy four years to this little blog of mine. And you bet sharing a birthday with Harry Potter was intentional. So to celebrate today, here is a tag all about the blog!
Why did you start this blog?
I had a previous blog and was really enjoying writing in general. I decided I wanted a blog for all the geeky things I enjoy and that didn’t fit in the other blog. So Geek Chic was born. What? This blog isn’t called Geek Chic? Well, it used to be, but I quickly changed it a month or so in cause Geek Chic does not fit me at all and is also the name of a tabletop gaming furniture company.
What is your favorite part of blogging?
Writing and making the graphics for post titles. Writing is cathartic in many ways for me. And I love tweaking graphics in Photoshop and being able to make it however I want.
What was your first blog post ever?
The first post on A Geek Girl’s Guide was Nerd vs. Geek. It is still up so you can go read it if you wish. However, I don’t consider it a very good or accurate post anymore.
What are your favorite blog posts from each year you’ve blogged?
This is honestly going to be difficult but here we go.
2015
Underrated: Hagrid because it was the first that started a whole series of posts and Hagrid is awesome.
2016
Ilvermorny Sorting Guide was the first post I did that took tons of research and was super fun to write. It is also an incredibly popular post which doesn’t hurt.
2017
How To Do Disneyland Like A SoCalian was a fun post to write. I also really like the title graphic of this post.
2018
So 2018 was really hard because there is a lot of content from that year that I really love. But I did narrow it down.
The Ultimate Gift Guide for Geeks was a massive project that took tons of research as well. Plus it is fun to explore different fandoms and stuff they’d enjoy.
Honorable Mention:
24 Geeky Facts About Me was the post I did for my 24th birthday and it took forever to think of 24 facts about me. But I did it, so it’s now an honorable mention for this.
2019 (so far)
Video Games to Play Based on Your Zodiac Sign is a fairly recent post I did. I was brainstorming different post ideas and thought of this one, and I knew I had to do it cause it sounded super fun to write. And it was very fun to write and research.
What have you learned from being a blogger?
Many, many things. If I had to pick one, it is how great it is to have a place to express yourself freely and share what you enjoy. And how important community is.
What goals do you have for your blog?
As of the time of writing this, I honestly have no idea. Life has been very tumultuous recently, and my attention has not been on the future of A Geek Girl’s Guide. I know, though, that I don’t want to stop writing.
