I love a good quote, especially from my favorite geeky things. And for today’s 30 Day Geek Out Challenge question, I am sharing my number one favorite quote.
Just as a reminder, the 30 Day Geek Out Challenge is all about what makes you geeky, from fandoms to hobbies, favorite characters and more. I’m going to do this challenge along with my regular schedule of posts, so there will be tons of content from me this month! Thanks to Megan at A Geeky Gal for creating this!
Today’s question is: Favorite fandom quote?
Of all the quotes Dumbledore has said, this has become my favorite. It is a good reminder to focus on the life you are living versus the one you make up in your head. Having dreams is good, but if they don’t become reality and you dwell in them, you are no better off.
I say this quote all of the time and have changed it in ways to be fitting in various situations. One alteration I’ve done is “It does not do to dwell on demons and forget to live.” I connect this quote to mental health a lot, thus the demons adjustment. Focusing on the negatives and the lies your mental health demons brew up is just as bad as dwelling in dreams of what you wish your life was like. Don’t let your mind make you stop living.
Make sure you go an check out A Geeky Gal’s post for this question too!

I love the alteration, changing dreams to demons. Fits me more. Thanks for sharing! I always love reading people’s fave quotes. ♡
Dumbledore has said some pretty memorable things in the books.
Oh my, is it even possible to choose one of the literally millions of great quotes that are out there? Quotes are all about their context, and even something like “Stfu, Britney!” can be a hilarious quote, if it fits the situation/mood.
If we are strictly talking Dumbledore quotes, I always liked the one “Sometimes, it has it’s perks to be the headmaster of a school of wizards”. I’m probably heavily paraphrasing here because it’s been 15 years or more since I read Harry Potter and it was in German. I believe it was when Dumbledore and Harry were teleporting to the location of a horcrux, and Harry said “I thought it was impossible to apparate within Hogwarts” and Dumbledore dismissively says “Sometimes, it has it’s perks to be the headmaster of a school of wizards”.
To me, this is a great example of how rules are important and everything, but you can never let them define who you are and what you can bring to the table. Rules are not meant to be broken, and they are important in a societey, but always keep in mind that they are basically self-imposed and only carry as much meaning as you as a society are willing to give them.
