A new year means new geeky things to enjoy! And 2020 has its fair share of things I’m really looking forward to. So I am sharing my hypes with all of you!
Movies:
In The Heights
The film adaptation of Lin Manuel Miranda’s first musical In The Heights is coming out this summer, and the first trailer looks amazing! It is full of energy and excitement and looks like a real redemption to the musical-to-movie adaptations.
Death on the Nile
The second installment to Kenneth Branagh’s Poirot adaptations will be Death on the Nile. After seeing his version of Murder on the Orient Express, I’m looking forward to how he continues these adaptations.
Video Games:
Best Friend Forever
Raise a dog and navigate the confusing world of human dating in Best Friend Forever. I find visual novels/ dating sims relaxing and this one, in particular, looks very charming, even for a cat person like me.
Röki
Röki is an adventure game inspired by Scandinavian folklore and I have heard and read so many good things about it. The art is intriguing alone, and the dark fairytale setup is unique compared to other games I play.
Spiritfarer
In Spiritfarer, you play as the ferryman transporting the souls of the recently dead. The souls manifest as different animals based on the person they are from and have quests for the ferryman as their last wish before passing on. The premise alone is what I am interested in the most.
Later Daters
Another visual novel dating sim coming in 2020 is Later Daters, which is set in a retirement community. It is a different look at a dating sim I am intrigued by how it will be done.
Shows:
Top Chef All-Stars 2
I am a giant Top Chef nerd and have been watching it since the first season back in 2006. And my favorite of all of the previous seasons the first All-Stars. So having the new season be a second All-Stars and filled with previous chefs I love is going to be awesome.
Attack on Titan final season
I just got into Attack on Titan in 2019 and I am hooked. The final season comes out this fall so finally getting all of my questions answered will be great. The third season was super awesome so who knows what this one has in store.
Broadway:
Seeing Hadestown on Broadway
Yep, I AM SEEING HADESTOWN ON BROADWAY THIS YEAR. I am hoping that the original cast is still there when I go, or at the very least Patrick Page and Amber Gray are still Hades and Persephone. No matter what, this is one of my top highlights for the year.
Seeing Hamilton
One of my Christmas gifts was tickets to see Hamilton at the Hollywood Pantages. So I am getting to see my top two favorite shows in the same year. I saw Miss Saigon at the Pantages this year and that theatre is gorgeous so I am excited to see Hamilton there too.
Six on Broadway
While I am not seeing this show, I am hyped for Six to make its Broadway debut in March. The West End Original Cast made me really fall in love with the show so I am looking forward to seeing what they do for Broadway.
Other:
The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes Book by Suzanne Collins
We’re getting to return to Panem in a new Hunger Games novel! This one takes place 64 years before Katniss and Peeta entered the Games, starting on the morning of the reaping of the Tenth Hunger Games. I am very interested to see what will take place in this book and its relationship to The Hunger Games trilogy.
Namiji
Namiji is a new board game in the universe of Tokaido, which is one of my favorite board games. Instead of traveling the roads of Japan, players take to the sea to explore the coasts of Japan. I am looking forward to playing this one when it releases.
