On The Edge is the third and final DLC for the survival strategy game Frostpunk. I got the awesome opportunity to play the DLC early and share my thoughts with you all.
A copy of this game was provided for the purposes of this review.

In On The Edge, you play as the leader of a group who are sent from New London (the settlement you run in the base game) to acquire resources from an Army Warehouse. You are kept on New London’s leash and bound to transfer all your precious findings to the headquarters. At the same time, you have to rely on scarce food deliveries and laws enforced by your supervisor. But once you find alternate food source, you can decide whether to continue as is our start to survive on your own.

Most of the game play is the same as the base game. You will assign your settlers to various jobs in an effort to gather resources. You will also have to ensure everyone survives by having enough food, shelter, and medical care. Various challenge will arise and you will have to solve them or face the consequences.

New game play includes the objective of sending resources back to New London in exchange for food supply and other assistance. If you don’t meet these requirements quickly enough, New London can alter what they send you and how often, which can put your people at risk. It is a really delicate balance of helping your own people and making sure you satisfy New London so they don’t abandon you.

A specific new mechanic that is really interesting is the communication feature. You will have to communicate with New London to send resources and you can also communicate with them to request assistance. I’m interested to see if and how communication adapts to your choices. Like what will happen if you choose to not send supplies to New London, how will communication be?
Overall, On The Edge is the best of Frostpunk with a new scenario that adds unique situations that make for a great addition to the strategy survival game. For those who already play Frostpunk, it is refresh that will get you back into the game for hours. I can see myself getting sucked into this scenario like I did the base game and The Last Autumn DLC.
Frostpunk On The Edge releases today, August 20th.
