I was scrolling through Letterboxd and the upcoming films and a few caught my eye, so I decided to share them.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery
I really enjoyed the first Knives Out, so I am definitely curious about how they’ll continue this series. The name alone has me curious, so we’ll have to find out its relevance when it releases in late 2022.

Haunted Mansion
They are taking another chance at making the iconic Disneyland into a film, sans Eddie Murphy this time. Based on the current synopsis of the new film, it sounds much spookier and even closer to a horror/thriller. I doubt that it actually will be since this is Disney we’re talking about, but it seems interesting, and since it is based on my favorite attraction, I’m going to end up seeing it regardless. Haunted Mansion is supposed to release in 2023, so won’t be too long.

Once On This Island
Disney has acquired the ability to bring the broadway musical Once On This Island to Disney+, much like how Hamilton debuted on the platform. But unlike Hamilton, Once On This Island will not be a pro-shot of the stage version but an adaptation like the likes of Chicago, Into The Woods, or Dreamgirls. There is no release date yet, but hopefully, we’ll see this Tony-winning musical soon.

Portal
Yes, Portal as in the video game. There is very little information on this besides J. J. Abrams is a producer and in 2021 claimed the movie had a script and was in early development with Warner Bros. We’ll see if this goes anywhere, but I’m cautiously interested to see what can be done with the iconic franchise.

Fun Home
Fun Home is coming to screens, but I’m not 100% certain that it is the musical. On Letterboxd it doesn’t clearly state it is the musical, but according to Broadway.com they say it is. I guess we’ll have to see, which won’t know how long with no release date announced.

Eleanor & Park
Eleanor & Park is a young adult novel by Rainbow Rowell that holds the record for the only book I have read cover to cover in a single sitting. While there has been some controversy associated with it, I was still excited to see a film prospectively being made. No release details yet though.

Wicked
If you keep up with broadway at all, then you’ll have already heard about the Wicked being adapted for film. It is being split into two films, which isn’t a practice I necessarily love, but it is being directed by Jon M. Chu who directed In The Heights, which I really liked. Plus having the two leads be actual singers is a promising start. The first film is slated for 2024 so we still have a while to go, but I’m cautiously optimistic about this.
